Welcome to Point Sal State Beach, a hidden gem nestled in the northwestern part of Santa Barbara County, near the city of Guadalupe. This park, spanning approximately 80 acres, boasts over 1.5 miles of pristine ocean frontage. The lands above the beach and rocky shoreline are adorned with steep slopes and numerous landslides, offering prime examples of coastal sage and chaparral communities. In spring, the area is dominated by the abundant Giant coreopsis, creating a spectacular wildflower display.

The views of the coastline, beach, and rugged mountain slopes are truly exceptional. Offshore, Lion Rock serves as an important bird-roosting site and is frequented by sea lions and other marine mammals. The park is a haven for recreational activities such as fishing, beach combing, hiking, nature study, photography, picnicking, and sunbathing. However, due to extremely dangerous rip currents and occasional shark sightings, swimming is not recommended.

The park is also a geological marvel, representing one of the most intact and complete cross sections of oceanic crust visible on land. The rocks at the park record geologic conditions that indicate submarine origin and widespread transport via plate tectonics, making it a fascinating site for geology enthusiasts.

Please note, the park has no picnic tables, toilets, or other recreational facilities, and camping is not permitted. Access is from sunrise to sunset for recreational purposes only. Remember, this is a wild and scenic part of the California coast, so please respect the natural environment during your visit.
