Salinas River State Beach

About Salinas River State Beach
A natural gem nestled at the mouth of the Salinas River at Monterey Bay, in Monterey County, California. This beach is not your typical sunbathing spot, but rather a haven for nature enthusiasts. Visitors are drawn to its serene environment for nature watching, beach combing, fishing, and photography. The beach is home to a variety of species including the California brown pelican, red-tailed hawk, American kestrel, western snowy plover, western gull, black phoebe, California scrub jay, California towhee, and white-crowned sparrow. The beach also features the remnants of a half-sunken barge, adding a touch of mystery to its landscape. However, swimming or surfing is not recommended due to unpredictable surf and strong waves. The beach can be accessed from the Potrero exit off of Highway 1, in Moss Landing. It is part of the 99 miles of Monterey County coastline.
