Cayucos State Beach, a charming little beach town rich in history, is a gem on the California coast. Known for its fishing pier, beautiful beach, and historical buildings, Cayucos offers a unique blend of old and new. Many of the buildings from the town’s prosperous past still stand, housing a variety of shops, restaurants, and specialty item stores.

The sandy beach is a haven for watersports enthusiasts, offering surfing and swimming, as well as tide pooling. Lifeguards are on duty during the peak summer months, and junior lifeguard training is available. The beach also offers windsurfing, jogging, bird watching, and wildlife viewing opportunities.

The beach is home to picnic tables, play equipment, restrooms, and outside showers. The pier is lit for night fishing, and no fishing license is required when fishing from the pier. However, fishing limits are enforced.

The Cayucos Veterans Hall, located at the Cayucos Pier, is an ideal location for wedding receptions, memorials, reunions, birthdays, and more. The Museum of Natural History in nearby Morro Bay State Park has exhibits that cover natural features, cultural history, Native American life, geology, and oceanography.

Cayucos State Beach has moderate weather, often 30 degrees cooler than inland areas during summer days. Dress in layers, especially near the ocean. As the water here is cooler than in Southern California, surfers generally wear wetsuits.

Located 19 miles northwest of San Luis Obispo on Highway 1, and 23 miles south of the Hearst San Simeon State Historical Monument Visitor Center on Highway 1, Cayucos State Beach is a must-visit destination on the Central Coast of California.
